Dissemination Activities

  • On 31st May 2013, the subjects of Water Management and of the Non-Revenue water were discussed during the General Assembly of the European Council of Civil Engineers in Lisbon. Mr. George Demetriou from the Water Board Nicosia presented the issue of the Non-revenue water with reference to the Waterloss program and Non-Revenue water in Nicosia. Mr. Demetriou gave a presentation within the frame of the works of the Steering Committee for the Environment and Sustainability. He was elected as a vice-chairman of the committee and he will be actively involved in the works for the next meeting and discussion of the water management and water scarcity in Cyprus. It is noted that the issue of water scarcity and water management in general is considered of critical importance in Europe and in many other countries and it will be included in the agenda of the Committee.
  • On 23-24 May 2013, Aristotle university of Thessaloniki and the Municipal Enterprise for water supply and sewerage of Kozani participated in the Informative workshop organized by the initiative “Alliance for water”, in Thessaloniki, presenting project WATERLOSS and its results.
  • On 4-7 April 2013, the University of Ljubljana participated in the Spring Fair for Construction, Energetics, Municipal Services and Trade, in Gornja Radgona, Slovenia, presenting WATERLOSS.
  • On 15th March 2013, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki participated at a stakeholders’ event in Chania, Greece, of MED project, MEDIWAT, presenting WATERLOSS results on Non-revenue water (NRW) issues in the Mediterranean area.
  • On February 2013  the University of Ljubljana produced a project brochure presenting the organization and its role in WATERLOSS project. The brochure was prepared in Slovenian for dissemination purposes.

  • On 18-20 January 2013 Aristotle University participated in the Exhibition: “AUTH in Noesis, meeting innovation, education and Culture”, in Thessaloniki, Greece. During the exhibition a WATERLOSS roll up was displayed and the project was presented to all participants.
  • On 12th November 2012 the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona distributed WATERLOSS brochures at the Conference “Mediterranean White Paper on Water” in Madrid, Spain.
  • On September 2012 the Municipal Enterprise for water supply and sewerage of Kozani produced a project brochure presenting the organization and its role in WATERLOSS project. The brochure was prepared in both Greek and English for dissemination purposes.

  • On 3rd July 2012 Conseil Général des Pyrénées-Orientales held a working meeting to present the work done and define methodologies for unbilled unauthorised consumption and leakage volumes.
  • On 12th June 2012 Water Board of Nicosia produced a WATERLOSS dissemination document to inform the general public about the project and its results.

  • On 12th June 2012 Conseil Général des Pyrénées-Orientales held a working meeting on project WATERLOSS to present the work done and discuss and validate the results.
  • On 11th June 2012 the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona produced a press release on project WATERLOSS entitled: “A sustainable water management”, published in the newspaper “EL PUNT AVUI” in 29.993 copies with an estimated readership of approximately 3.500.000 inhabitants.

  • In June 2012 the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona produced an informative video about project WATERLOSS which was aired on TV3 Environment Programme channel and was viewed by approximately 350.324 inhabitants.
  • On 23rd May 2012 Conseil Général des Pyrénées-Orientales participated in a professional workshop organized by their local authority, entitled “The drinking water supply systems efficiency”.  Project WATERLOSS was presented and dissemination material was distributed to all participants.
  • On 8th May 2012 Aristotle University and the Municipal Enterprise for Water Supply and  Sewerage in Kozani participated in the 1st Spanish Information and Awareness Seminar in Barcelona, Spain.
  • On 22nd March 2012 the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona sent to 365 recipients an informational letter on project WATERLOSS together with the project’s Catalan brochure in order to widely inform Barcelona citizens about the project and its results.
  • On 1st March 2012 the link of WATERLOSS website was included in the website of similar INTERREG IVC project “WATER CoRe” http://www.watercore.eu/
  • In January 2012 Water Board of Nicosia held a meeting with the IT external partner to examine how to utilize data from IT records for the needs of water loss and decision making tool. Moreover, a meeting with the supplier of WBN’s Telemetry system with respect to utilization of WBN’s Telemetry for the purpose of water loss reduction was also organized.
  • On 19th December 2011 Aristotle University published an informative article in the official magazine of the University’s Polytechnic School “Polymichano”, presenting project WATERLOSS.

  • In December 2011 Water Board of Nicosia held a meeting with the University of Cyprus regarding the electronic data record of leakage incidents for utilization in WATERLOSS project. WBN also met with relevant suppliers with regard to the technological equipment needed for Waterloss reduction and informed them on WATERLOSS and its requirements.
  • On 10th November 2011, the River Basin Authority of Liri-Garigliano and Volturno organized a technical committee meeting, attended also by representatives of the Ministry of Environment and technical experts. WATERLOSS progress was presented and the project’s brochure and factsheet were disseminated.
  • On 10th November 2011, the Conseil Général des Pyrénées Orientales organized the 1st meeting between all local partners. The discussion was focused on the project’s progress in regards to the selected pilot areas, the data recovery to complete or to validate the water balance, as well as the definition of a methodology to estimate or measure the missing volumes.
  • On 3rd November 2011, the Conseil Général des Pyrénées Orientales had an Assembly where the progress of WATERLOSS project was presented and project brochures were disseminated.
  • On 5th October 2011, the Conseil Général des Pyrénées Orientales presented WATERLOSS project at a workshop on “Information and presentation of Pis developed by IWA” in the city of Bordeaux. Approximately 300 persons attended the workshop and project brochures were disseminated.
  • On 27th September 2011, the Conseil Général des Pyrénées Orientales organized an internal meeting during which a presentation of  WATERLOSS project was made to the organization’s drinking water technicians, the responsible of the drinking water department, the director as well as the responsible of the organization’s european department.
  • On 22nd September 2011 the Conseil Général des Pyrénées Orientales presented WATERLOSS project at the University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis in Nice. The meeting was attended by approximately 100 teachers and students, specializing in the field of water management. Project brochures were disseminated.
  • On 17th  August 2011 the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki published an informative article in the Euro-Mediterranean Information System on know-how in the Water sector (EMWIS flash news) presenting project WATERLOSS.

  • On 16th July 2011, the Water Board of Nicosia  met with the representative of Electronics and communication department of the Ministry of Communication and works on 16th July 2011, informing him about the project and the need for policies on electronic governance and Telemetry tools, to ensure water management, minimize water losses and record problems faced on water management and water losses.
  • On 9th May 2011 the Water Board of Nicosia met with the representative of the University of Cyprus (Dr. S. Christodoulou) who works on research on water loss management. WATERLOSS was presented and views on how to benefit from water management were exchanged.
  • On 6-7 May 2011, Mr. Demetriou of the Water Board of Nicosia attended the general meeting of the European Council of Civil Engineers (ECCE) in Malta where a specific reference and speech was given  for the organization of the Med event in Cyprus within the frame of the activities of the Committee for the Environment.
  • In May 2011 the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki published  an article presenting project WATERLOSS in the technical magazine ”KTIRIO”.

  • In April 2011 the Conseil Général des Pyrénées Orientales uploaded on the organization’s official website an informative article about WATERLOSS project. More information can be found at http://www.cg66.fr/ .
  • On 21st March 2011, the University of Ljubljana made a presentation of WATERLOSS project at the Soca river Water Management authorities in Nova Gorica. Project brochures were disseminated to the participants.
  • On 1st February 2011 the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki published an article in the bulletin of the “Technical Chamber of Greece-section of Central Macedonia”, presenting project WATERLOSS.

  • Programme MED published in December 2010 the 4th edition of the newsletter with special focus on 2nd call projects. The newsletter included a short description of WATERLOSS project.

  • The Conseil Général des Pyrénées Orientales organized 3 awareness meetings on WATERLOSS project. The 1st meeting took place on 14th October 2010 in Perpignan. Two water supply organisations participated; Perpignan Agglomération and Ground Waters Organization. The 2nd meeting was organized on 7th December 2010 in   Communauté de Communes des Aspres with the participation of the technical responsible and the Vice President of the organization. The 3rd meeting took place on 3rd February 2011, in the Communauté de Communes Albères côte Vermeille. The technical responsible, the technician of drinking water and the responsible of the   local council participated. In all meetings project factsheets were distributed and all organizations agreed on participating  to the WATERLOSS experimentation.
  • During the MED Annual Event that was organized on 22nd-23rd September 2010 in Thessaloniki, the WATERLOSS factsheet was distributed.

  • On 15th September 2010 the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona published  a newsletter presenting project WATERLOSS. The newsletter was sent to 646 people in the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona.

Project Description

The project will develop a methodology for control of non-revenue water in water supply systems, by implementation of the following:
- water balance in water systems using GIS-based maps;
-appropriate performance indicators;
- a decision support tool and a prioritized list of measures for controlling water losses, adapted to regional conditions.
